Hiking

Hiking pleasure in Aberland / Bavarian Forest

The recreational area of Kaikenried in the Bavarian Forest offers nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts a newly created network of footpaths of varying difficulty.

Look forward to a wide range of hiking routes in spectacular Arberland or simply take a gentle stroll through the local woods, e.g. down by the river Regen.

The Großer Arber, the highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest, is only a short distance from Kaikenried and is a real paradise for hiking fans. In addition other mountains in the National Park such as Rachel (1453m), Falkenstein (1312m) and Lusen (1373m) can provide an unforgettable day’s hiking.

After an eventful day’s hiking you can relax in our splendid wellness area. ….

Hiking Routes Kaikenried

The routes take you in different direction but all start in the centre of the village.

Holzhausweg (Wooden House Path)

Length 5.9 km
Signpost No. 4

The route takes you past the football pitch. After crossing the Flinzbach (brook) bear off to the right through the so-called Mühlholz. After a short distance on the road you pass the houses of Holzhaus and go again through the forest. A farm track at the edge of the forest leads to Aschersdorf. You can safely return to Kalkenried on the footpath alongside the road.

Waldkapellenweg (Forest Chapel Path)

Length 6.2 km
Signpost No. 5

The route runs along the road to Bärmannsreid as far as the Totenbretten (death boards), swings round to the right and leads up to a hill with a splendid view. It continues through the forest (there are forest information signs along the route) and comes to a forest chapel (built 150 years ago). Proceed past a property and you reach the most spectacular viewpoint at the edge of the forest looking out over Teisnach, Geiersthal, Altnußberg and Fernsdorf (end of the forest information path 2.8 km). From here you return back through the forest to Aschersdorf (another splendid view) and along the path beside the road to Kaikenried.

At the beginning this route is identical with route no. 2 until you reach the upper edge of the forest.
