Bavarian Forest National ParkVisit Germany’s oldest National Park in the beautiful Bavarian Forest. The Bavarian Forest National Park was established in 1970 as the first National Park in Germany. It covers 24.000 hectares and is Germany’s largest Forest National Park. In keeping with the leading idea “Leaving Nature to its Own Devices!” the natural growth and decay of the individual communities is protected and preserved. For this reason damaged and dead trees are not removed, but remain part of the natural cycle. As a result the forest and its inhabitants are free to develop and evolve without any human influence. In the Bavarian Forest Natural Park there are various visitor centres that provide information about the life of the forest and its inhabitants… Visitor Centres in the Bavarian National Park: In the National Park Centre Lusen near Neuschönau, visitors can stop at the “Hans-Eisenmann-Haus” Information Centre and visit the wildlife area with 16 large enclosures and aviaries as well as the plant and rock areas. Since September 2009 you can experience a real highlight – the worlds longest treetop walkway! The ca. 1300m long path which reaches heights up to 25m, goes past different “Discovery Stations” on the way up to the impressive view tower. Here at the height of 44m you can enjoy a fantastic all round view. TIP: The treetop walkway is also suitable for wheelchairs and baby buggies. Dogs are not allowed, and kennels are available at the entrance. The National Park Centre Falkenstein will delight nature lovers, walkers and families with its “Haus zur Wildnis” visitor centre and the wildlife enclosures. You can also visit the Stone Age Cave and go back in time to the beginnings of history. Other attractions in the Bavarian Forest National Park
